PUBLIC STATEMENT ABOUT TUNDAMAN-SIMBA DAY

Tundaman (prominent musician in Tanzania), performed at Mkapa National Stadium (Dar es Salaam) during Simba Day ceremony (Ceremony of a most prominent football team called Simba Sports Club). His performance was nourished with extraordinary drama. He entered on the stadium within a coffin as a dead man in ae Christian funeral, and then he started to sing within a coffin. The style of performance annoyed some members of Christian faith and demanded Tundaman to apologize. Simba Sports Club released a public statement to demand Tundaman to apologize, despite he did not do any act or say any speech directed to harm Christianity. TARO as Artists Human Rights Defenders, we came out and released a public statement in form of legal position paper to defend Tundaman’s artistic freedom of expression. The result was that, the public and Simba Sports Club refrained from pressurizing Tundaman to apologize.
